Lakers trade rumors: LA eyeing Knicks forward

Lakers trade rumors: LA eyeing Knicks forward.

NBA Training Camp begins in a few weeks and although things fell through for the New York Knicks in their hopes to acquire Donovan Mitchell, they may not be finished making changes to their roster. There remains one player on the Knicks roster that would like to be traded. According to the New York Post, Knicks forward Cam Reddish wants a bigger role and doesn’t envision that being a possibility in New York.

The relationship between Reddish and the Knicks didn’t exactly have the fairytale beginning since Tom Thibodeau wasn’t in favor of the trade in the first place and the Knicks pulled the trigger anyways. By the way, the trade we’re referring to, was New York sending forward Kevin Knox II and a 2022 first-round draft pick to the Atlanta Hawks for Reddish, Solomon Hill and a 2025 second-round pick.

In hindsight, it was a trade that in no way made the Knicks a better team. Currently, it’s arguable that the only position they’re set at is forward/wing. Hence why Reddish doesn’t see much of a role for him on this team and why he wants to go elsewhere. He believes he could be a star.

There is one team that has shown clear interest in Reddish, and that is the Los Angeles Lakers. Keep in mind, that the Lakers attempted to trade for Reddish at the trade deadline last season, but obviously whiffed.

How much interest do the Lakers have in Cam Reddish?

Reddish is still 23 years old and still has a tremendous amount of untapped potential. Before Laker fans get all worked up, no Reddish will not solve the team’s glaring need for three-point shooting (32 percent), but he gives them some youth, and versatility on the wing. Pairing a young, athletic forward who is capable of playing some shooting guard as well alongside Lebron James could bring out the best in a player like Reddish.

Not to mention, now could be the best time for the Lakers to act on acquiring Reddish. The Knicks are vulnerable right now. After essentially putting all of their eggs in one basket to try and acquire Mitchell and failing to do so, they’re more likely to listen to more offers involving other players on their roster.
