Dan’s Dumpster Dives – FanDuel NBA value plays
I’m going to provide a brief intro as this is the first NBA article like this I’ve done and I’m not sure how consistent I can be with it unfortunately. FanDuel smartened up and got rid of the drop score rule which means now our punts actually matter, right? Despite having your worst score count, the old “stars and scrubs” strategy is still rather strong. This holds particularly true when there are injuries or we’re in the early parts of the season and the sites aren’t catching up to the pricing. Also, for the record, this is called FanDuel value plays but I think it’s reasonable to leverage this information on DraftKings as well.
You don’t want to load your lineup with tons of value plays because at some point you’re just taking too much of a risk. For instance, if you have two value guys, one of them not doing well or hitting their value probably won’t kill you. Also, the odds of a value guy not doing well are higher than a star. They’re priced this way for a reason, right? We can’t ALWAYS be getting lucky and getting ahead of the curve on an up and coming stud under $5k. Speaking of $5k, I think for the purposes of this article we can consider anyone under that price tag to be a value. Min price on FanDuel is $3500 and it’s rare to get someone worth playing and I think it’s reasonable to consider guys above $5000 to be “mid range” and then of course you have your studs and mega studs near the top who are priced appropriately. To evaluate whether a “scrub” is worth a look in your starting lineup can depend on a number of things. He doesn’t have to necessarily be a starter but of course that’s a plus. It could be a low priced guy who is going to lead the 2nd unit in usage and minutes. It could be someone who is just a fantasy point per minute monster despite perhaps only getting out there for maybe 20 minutes (if we’re lucky). Or, the best NBA value situation, is when you have a scrub filling in for an injured starter who is announced out somewhat late notice. With this NBA article being put together the night before, that’s going to be rather difficult to determine but we’re going to give it the old college try. Let’s take a look at some options at each position that FanDuel locks us into…
