In response to LaVar Ball’s comments that the Wizards should “beware” of Lonzo on Wednesday, Marcin Gortat says John Wall will “torture” the Lakers rookie.
It would seem that the pressure on Lonzo Ball, the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA draft, couldn’t get any bigger than being dubbed the future of the Los Angeles Lakers.
But the target on his back grows larger each time his outspoken father, LaVar Ball, opens his mouth.
Following the Lakers’ 119-112 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, LaVar was asked for thoughts on his son’s play and the team’s performance. Then it was brought to his attention that the Lakers play the Wizards on Wednesday. And his response, made in typical LaVar Ball fashion, served as a warning to Washington:
“Washington coming in here Wednesday?” LaVar exclaimed. “They better beware ’cause Lonzo ain’t losing again. Not in the same week!”
Wizards center Marcin Gortat replied to the video, shared via Twitter by Ballislife, reminding LaVar that Lonzo will be matched up against All-Star John Wall for the game:
Lonzo’s rude awakening to the NBA was also incited by his father.
LaVar told ESPN First Take last month that Steph Curry wouldn’t want to guard his son. The quote was tweeted out by NBA TNT and Clippers guard Patrick Beverley replied, “But imma guard him the first game and we will see about that!!!”
Beverley proceeded to make Lonzo’s regular season debut miserable, holding him to three points, nine rebounds and four assists. After the game, Beverley was heard saying, “weak a** m*****f*****. Bring him out on the court with me and I will tear his a** up.”
Wall himself hasn’t publicly addressed LaVar’s comments, but surely we can expect the four-time All-Star to also play motivated against the rookie.
The Lakers match-up with the Wizards Wednesday will be televised on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. ET.
