The best reactions from Twitter in response to the news that the Knicks traded Carmelo Anthony to the Thunder.
Carmelo Anthony is no longer a Knick after he waived his no-trade clause to join Russell Westbrook and Paul George on the Oklahoma City Thunder. First, props have to be given to Cycle’s Rob Perez for basically laying out this exact trade on his Periscope on Friday night. Not only did Perez predict the trade, but he also provided us with a gem of a tweet.
Meanwhile, Enes Kanter who is probably the most loyal guy on the roster has to be feeling some kind of way. He really holds a grudge against Kevin Durant for leaving the way he did, and really loves Oklahoma City. He even tweeted out a statement in wake of Durant’s Twitter snafu where he went after Billy Donavan and his former teammates. Three days later, and Kanter is no longer a member of the Thunder. C.J. McCollum reminded everyone that loyalty is a one-way street in the NBA.
The Rockets couldn’t land Anthony this summer, but they still landed Chris Paul. Not a bad consolation prize for a team that has championship aspirations. The Timberwolves landed Jimmy Butler to go with Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. Guess what those teams have in common with the rest of the league. They’re still chasing Golden State.
The biggest question that remains in OKC is who’s going to take the last shot with the game on the line? Westbrook was actually really good last season in crunch time. Anthony has been around a long time and has had his fair share of game-winners. George is also very capable of knocking down the clutch shot. Let’s be real here, this is Westbrook’s team, and he’s taking the shot.
Anthony may have wanted out of New York, but there is no denial that Melo had some pretty fantastic moments in the Garden. Knicks fans sure haven’t forgotten those moments.
Thunder fans are definitely hoping this is the Melo they get this upcoming season.
