Nick Young has signed with the Golden State Warriors on a one-year deal. Golden State will give him the Mid-Level Exception.
Swaggy P is going to Golden State Warriors. That’s right, we said it — Swaggy P is going to the Warriors! The Warriors, while over the salary cap, only had the Mid-Level Exception to work with to bring in a quality free agent. The team has opted to use that $5.3 million Exception on the former Lakers polarizing figure Nick Young.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was the first to report the news:
Sam Amick of USA Today has also said that Young’s agent Marke Bartelstein has confirmed the report.
The move to the Warriors is a wise one. After watching Shaqtin a fool phenom JaVale McGee turn his career around with Golden State, Swaggy P had to jump on that opportunity. Young, 32, averaged 13.2 points to go along with a 14.12 PER rating. Young also fits the Warriors’ motto as a lights out 3-point shooter knocking down 40.4 percent of his attempts.
Young needed to get out of the circus in L.A. For those who don’t remember, Young is also known for dating Iggy Azalea, but have since broken up via D’Angelo Russell. Who would have thought the Lakers would have moved on from Russell before Nick Young!
Young, a former No. 10 overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft from USC, likely rounds out the Warriors bench. Now it’s time for the team to target big men. Both Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee sit out on the open market and can only be brought back using a minimum contract. Luckily for the Warriors drafting Jordan Bell and signing undrafted free agent Chris Boucher, both from Oregon, alleviate some of that need.
With Both Kevin Durant and Steph Curry re-signing this offseason, the Warriors appear to be title contenders for the next 5 years.
