LeBron James needs to do everything he can to bring his Cavaliers back from their huge deficit in the NBA Finals, specifically embarrassing Kevin Durant.
LeBron James has been in full takeover mode in the NBA Finals since his Cleveland Cavaliers went down 3-0 to the Golden State Warriors, and it continued in Game 6 with some vicious highlights.
After a stellar performance in Game 4 that saw The King put up 31 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in a 137-116 victory, LeBron came back just as strong in the first quarter of Game 5. However, it wasn’t until the second quarter that LeBron finally slammed one home for the first real highlight of the night.
A few minutes into the second, with his team up six, LeBron drove hard to the basket with Kevin Durant in his way, and decided it was time to make KD a victim. Even as Durant tried to escape going onto a poster, The King finished off the huge dunk regardless, and even withstood some contact along the way.
LeBron and Durant have been in a battle all series, with each trying to outdo the other with their respective highlights. While Durant hit a game-clinching 3-pointer in Game 3, LeBron countered with a 3 right over Durant at one point in Game 4. If this keeps up, we could see a Durant poster dunk over LeBron at some point in Game 5.
If LeBron can keep this pace up alongside Kyrie Irving for the rest of the game, the Cavaliers will have a serious chance for a comeback from their previous 3-0 series deficit. LeBron put up 12 points in the first quarter, while Irving dazzled his way to another 12 of his own to go up 37-33 after one.
All the Cavaliers need to see on the screen is “GS leads 3-1” in the bottom right corner after what happened last year, and it’s the equivalent of a shark smelling blood. In this specific case, LeBron was the shark, and Durant was just an innocent bystander caught in the water.
