Golden State Warriors, NBA Playoffs

5 reasons the Warriors repeat as champions

The Golden State Warriors just submitted one of the best three-year stretches in NBA history. They will return for the 2017-18 season as heavy favorites to win their third championship.

Golden State winning this championship became a near foregone conclusion to many when the league salary cap spike allowed the 73-win squad to add Kevin Durant last summer. The Warriors new star quickly gelled with the old ones, and his addition was about as seamless as it could have possibly been. They hit their stride late and won a championship in convincing fashion. Moving forward, this franchise could become a dynasty. Here are five reasons we should expect them to win it all again next year.

5. Golden State should return their main core

The Warriors will roll through their schedule as long as they employ Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson together. They could become beatable if the rest of the roster fails to fill roles, but the play of their four All-Stars will make them advance deep into the playoffs. Each of those players are still in their 20’s and could still improve as players yet too. Assuming that their future is together, it should be very successful.

Curry is an unrestricted free agent this summer and Durant can become one with a player option. It is more than likely that they both return to the Bay Area given the success that they had together this season. The opportunity to lead true dynasties don’t come along frequently for players; the chance of another opportunity being more enticing than the one the Warriors present may not really exist. In addition, Thompson is signed on for another season as well as Green for another two.
